C1294 - Mahogany BracketMaple of London. 19th century. 8 day fusee movement. Fully restored. A very good mahogany bracket clock, by Maple & Co Ltd, London. The single fusee, 8 day, movement with anchor escapement. The case of break arch form, with brass beadings to the front recessed panels.
The circular painted dial, with roman numerals to the circumference and signature. The original brass fish scale fretwork to the case sides, cast brass bezel and brass carrying handle. The clock is in fully restored condition. Founded in 1841 by John Maple, manufacturing and retailing from the hub of the furniture centre in London’s Tottenham Court Road, and through the founder & his son’s drive and excellence of the products, the company expanded greatly, to have further workshops and points of sale in both Paris and Buenos Aires, and later, a shop in Smyrna. Clients included Queen Victoria and members of the Royal Household, the King of Siam, and Nicholas, Tsar of Russia. Later, Maple would furnish the Royal yachts, the QE1 and the QE2.
